Jubilee Auditorium

One of the busiest theatres in Canada, the Northern Jubilee Auditorium plays host to a wide range of events, shows and experiences. Over the years they have hosted Broadway shows, stand-up comedians, theatre productions, bands, orchestras, dance festivals and awards ceremonies. They are also the home of the Edmonton Opera, Canada's Ukrainian Shumka Dancers and the Alberta Ballet.

University of Alberta

Alberta's primary post secondary institution and an active part of our centre, this university provides a wide range of subjects for those seeking post secondary education as well as a diverse number of community events and services. Their main campus, located near to us, has gymnasiums, pools, libraries and a theatre. We use these facilities for swimming lessons in the summer and a place run around in the gyms in the cold winter months. Many students from the Education and Psychology come to our centre to work and learn with us.

Old Strathcona and Whyte Avenue

The unofficial heart of Edmonton's arts and culture community, this area is a centre for many events, including the Edmonton International Fringe Festival and the Edmonton Pride Parade. The Strathcona branch of the library is located here, as well as several theatres and a diverse shopping district. One of the older parts of Edmonton, this area is a great place for everyone to experience Edmonton.

Kinsmen Sports Centre

During the summer months, GUELC visits Kinsmen Park for both playground and spray park play. Kinsmen Sports Centre offers 4 indoor pools to facilitate young children, adept swimmers and training purposes, and an outdoor pool. Kinsmen has a large and highly interactive playground and spray park that meets the needs of a wide range of developmental levels. There is also a large field house that houses a fitness centre with a track, courts and physiotherapy consultants.

As a part of Garneau School, we are lucky enough to be able to intereact with children of all ages! We also have access to gym and playground facilities.

William Hawrelak Park

Located in the Edmonton river valley, and a short walk from our centre, this park is one of the largest in Edmonton. For us it is a great place to explore outside and play! There is a lake where you can rent paddle boats in the summer and skate on in the winter. There are wakling trails and picnic areas for families to enjoy. It is also the place for many festivals, including Heritage Days, a celebration of Edmonton diversity and cultural richness.

Garneau After School Care (GASC)

City Arts Centre
As a centre we enjoy spontaneous excursions to the City Arts Park as a change of venue from our own playground. Not only does City Arts Centre have a great playground, but also offer plenty of open field area, tennis courts, volleyball nets, and a recreation building offering a variety of services such as classes and programs for both children and adults, summer day camps and drop in fitness classes.

Edmonton Public Library - Strathcona Branch

The Strathcona EPL branch is within walking distance of GUELC and our children enjoy taking a stroll down and finding new books to bring back to our centre. They also love to use the computers provided and play in the train! Library staff enjoy reading stories and singing songs with the children and if you check the schedule linked above you can find some great programs. During the summer months, we also have visitors from the library read with our children.
